About China Cup

China Cup International Regatta was first held in October 2007 after more than two years of intensive planning by the organizers, the Chinese Yachting Association, the Executive Office of Organizing Committee for the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade, and the China Cup International Regatta Management Co.,Ltd.

It was the culmination of a dream for yachting enthusiasts in China who have longed to join other nations in hosting a truly international racing event as the sport grows in popularity along the country's 14,500 km coastline and 14 "sailing cities".

As the world's newest and most ambitious yachting festival and modeled on the America's Cup, the regatta attracted 1000 sailors representing more than 60 teams from around the world. They enjoyed competition across six events including a passage race from Hong Kong to the host city Shenzhen and inshore racing on territorial waters in Daya Bay, together with a range of cultural events including an art exhibition, golf tournament, fashion show, economic forum and wine tasting party.

To demonstrate their ambition and ensure the regatta's success, the organizers purchased 30 Beneteau First 40.7s to enable crews to compete in a one-class event.

As the event grows in size in the next few years with more multi-million dollar investment by the organizers, it will become an even greater draw for sponsors, competitors, international media and visitors alike.

The following pages will tell you more about the inaugural event, what you can expect from us in 2008 and information about traveling to China and Shenzhen.
